Oscar joined the Florida State University Student-Athlete Academic Services Staff in November 2024



Prior to Florida State, Oscar served as a teacher, coach, administrator, and athletics director in the K-12 setting. Oscar also coached Collegiate track and field at the division 1, 2, and 3 levels developing numerous conference champions, school record holders, and national level competitors including 2 NCAA runners-up.

While earning his undergraduate degree Oscar served as the President of the African American Student Association, Student Athlete Advisory Council, and served on various committees across campus. As a graduate student Oscar began working as a student-athlete mentor which eventually lead him to a full-time position at Boise State University as an Athletics Academic Counselor/Tutorial Coordinator. While at Boise State Oscar’s duties included, monitoring continued eligibility of student athletes, coordinating the tutorial program, monitoring athletic study halls, conducting periodic class checks, conducting academic skill building meetings, and teaching as assigned.

As a student athlete Oscar was a 3x NCAA All-American in the javelin breaking his school record and conference records along the way. During his time as a track and field athlete he competed at 3 Olympic trials competitions, making a World Championship and Pan Am Games team, and was consistently ranked among the best in the US during his career. Now Oscar enjoys time with his wife Nicole and their 7 children. They are new to the area and love exploring all Tallahassee has to offer!
